I came across an interesting article in The Australian during the week. Research is showing that an increasing number of blue collar, working class seats are held by the Coalition whereas Labor is holding an increasing number of seats that have tertiary educated people. It certainly seems that the times are changing. The reputation that Labor represents the workers and the Coalition represents professionals is not reflected in reality.

The reputations of each party are not only about who the voters are. It has long been said that people trust the Coalition on national security and regional issues whereas people trust Labor on education, health and climate change. Again these reputations are not reflected in reality.

I have already questioned the Coalition’s reputation on national security when discussing uranium sales to Russia – a known weapons trader with rogue Middle Eastern states. In the bush, the Coalition has repeatedly forced farmers to the wall with thoughtless deregulation plans.

Labor’s reputation for education must be questioned considering the state of our public schools and their decision to retain the Coalition’s school funding model. In health, Labor’s reputation needs to be questioned after state Labor’s embarrassing and appalling gaffes at Royal North Shore Hospital. As for climate change, take your pick. Desalination, the pulp mill, land clearing. All of this happened on state Labor’s watch.

Their reputations may be tarnished but both major parties are still using these selling points as reasons to vote for them. Clearly they cannot be trusted.

This election is a good time to take your vote away from the major parties and show them you’ve had enough their hypocrisy. The people of Grayndler deserve better. When they vote on certain issues, they want to know that who they are voting for will back up their words with action. The Australian Democrats have been exposing their hypocrisy for over thirty years and no party is better at doing so.
